A technique used in water analysis that separates substances dissolved in a mixture.

Chromatogram

A pattern formed when colored substances in ink or paint are carried up chromatography paper by a solvent.

Evaporation

The process where a liquid turns into a gas and escapes into the air, leaving behind dissolved solids.

Brine

A salt solution produced when water is pumped into layers of rock salt underground, dissolving the sodium chloride.

Evaporation

Occurs when a liquid is turning into gas at the surface of the liquid.

Boiling

Occurs when a liquid is turning to gas throughout all of the liquid. Bubbles spread in all parts of it.
