superior vena cava

transports blood from the upper portion of the body to the heart

inferior vena cava

carries blood from lower regions of the body to right atrium

right atrium

the right upper chamber of the heart that receives deoxygenated blood from the venae cava

tricuspid valve

Prevents back flow of blood from the right ventricle to the right atrium

right ventricle

pumps blood to the lungs through the pulmonary artery

pulmonary semilunar valve

prevents backflow of blood from the pulmonary artery to the right ventricle

Pulmonary artery

Carries deoxygentated blood from the heart to the lungs

Pulmonary veins

carry the oxygenated blood from the lungs into the left atrium of the heart

Left atrium

Chamber that receives oxygenated blood from the pulmonary veins and pumps it into the left ventricle.

Mitral (bicuspid) valve

prevents backflow of blood from the left ventricle to the left atrium

Left ventricle

pumps oxygenated blood to the body via the aorta

aortic semilunar valve

Prevents backflow of blood from the aorta to the left ventricle

aorta

The large arterial trunk that carries blood from the heart to be distributed by branch arteries through the body.
