Circulation

The movement of blood through the blood vessels.

Debilitation

Impaired strength or movement.

Floor mat

A mat on the floor that helps move patients from one position to another.

Pivoting

To rotate on a point.

Prone

Position in which a person is lying with the face down or on the abdomen.

Side-lying position

A position in which the patient lies on his or her side.

Supine

Lying flat on the back, with the face upward.

Body mechanics

A term used to refer to the way in which the body moves and maintains its balance by the most efficient use of all of its parts.

Drawsheet transfer

Transferring a patient by using a sheet.

Efficiency

Being productive and timely.

One-person transfer

A transfer in which only one person helps the patient.

Parallel bars

Two bars that are used by physical therapists to help patients in their therapy.

Pneumatic lift transfer

A mechanical device that assists in moving patients.

Sliding board

A thin board that is placed across the two surfaces over which a patient may slide.

Transfer belt

A belt used to help support and transfer patients.

Treatment table

A bed on which patients rest to perform therapy.
