Meningitis
Inflammation of the layers of connective tissue surrounding the central nervous system, caused by viruses or bacteria.
Encephalitis
Infection that invades the entire brain, causing widespread inflammation and is often caused by viruses.
Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA)
A medical emergency caused by impaired blood flow to the brain, resulting in neurological dysfunction.
Gliomas
Serious brain tumors that arise from glial cells, often associated with high mortality.
Seizures
A period of sudden, excessive activity of cerebral neurons in the brain, which can cause convulsions.
Parkinson's Disease
A neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the death of dopamine neurons in the nigrostriatal pathway, leading to motor symptoms.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
A motor neuron disorder that attacks spinal cord and cranial nerve motor neurons, leading to progressive weakness and paralysis.
Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSE)
Fatal contagious brain diseases caused by prions, leading to a spongelike appearance of the brain.
Huntington's Disease
An inherited disorder characterized by degeneration of the basal ganglia, causing uncontrollable movements and cognitive changes.
Brain Tumor
A mass of abnormal cells growing in the brain, which can be malignant (cancerous) or benign (harmless).
