Constitution
A body of fundamental principles according to which a state is constituted or governed.
Functions of a Constitution
Provides basic rules for coordination among members of society, specifies decision-making authority, limits government power, and enables fulfillment of societal aspirations.
Sovereignty
The supreme power or authority of a state to govern itself or another state.
Fundamental Rights
Basic rights guaranteed to all citizens that no government may violate.
Directive Principles of State Policy
Guidelines for the framing of laws by the government, aimed at achieving socio-economic justice.
Democratic Constitution
A constitution where the people have the power to decide laws and policies through voting or representation.
Public Reason
Deliberation among constituents where representatives consider national interests rather than only their personal interests.
Majoritarianism
A political theory that a majority should have the right to make decisions that affect the society.
Collective Identity
The shared characteristics and identity of a group formed through common norms and principles.
Checks and Balances
The system that ensures no single institution has excessive power over governance by distributing authority across different branches.
