(SC going in favor w/ going after discrimination fo groups) SC prohibited intelligence tests or other devices that had the effect of excluding minorities or women from certain jobs.

cemented students' rights to free speech in public schools. Mary Beth Tinker was a 13-year-old junior high school student in December 1965 when she and a group of students decided to wear black armbands to school to protest the war in Vietnam.

Syria and Egypt unleashed surprise attacks on Israel. US backed Israel. Resulted in OPEC nations announced that they would cut oil production and placed an embargo on oil to any nation supporting Israel. =small economic depression bc US was so dependent on oil as an import

Post-Yom Kippur War when OPEC nations said they wouldn’t give oil to Israel supporting nations. Oil shortages and increased prices.

Reagan’s conservative movement. Brought him very close to winning the Rep nomination. Made shrewd use of the new primaries. Made use of “Hot-button” issues (ex. abortion, ERA, detente, etc.). Continued to grow over the next 4 years.

Iranian Hostage Crisis
Iranians stormed US embassy, took 60 US hostages. They demanded Shah Phalevi be returned from the US, to which he had fleed, for the release of the hostages.
EPIC failure for Carter
The attempted rescue mission of the US hostages in Iran which resulted in a plane crash and 8 rescuers’ deaths. The hostages were eventually relased 444 days after their capture.
