Apparatus
Beaker, water, hot plate, thermometer, test tube, graduated cylinder, pH9 buffer solution, celery, hydrogen peroxide
Step 1
Place 5g of chopped celery into a test tube and place it into a water bath at 100 degrees Celsius for 10 minutes
Step 2
Remove the test tube and let it cool
Step 3
Add 20cm cubed of pH9 buffer solution into the graduated cylinder
Step 4
Add a drop of washing up liquid
Step 5
Add 5g of the heated celery to the cylinder
Step 6
Add 2cm cubed of hydrogen peroxide to a test tube
Step 7
Stand the graduated cylinder and test tube in a water bath until the desired temperature (25 degrees Celsius)
Step 8
Pour hydrogen peroxide into the cylinder
Step 9
Note absence of foam and record
Step 10
Repeat procedure from step 5 using unheated celery to act as a control
Draw a diagram of the experiment
