Neuropsychological Disorders of Development
A set of disorders characterized by impairments that can affect behavior, language, cognitive abilities, and social/emotional functioning.
Comorbidity
The occurrence of two or more disorders or illnesses in the same person.
Behavioral Problems
Issues related to conduct that can manifest as defiance, aggression, or other disruptive behaviors.
Conduct Disorder
A psychiatric condition characterized by persistent patterns of behavior that violate societal norms and the rights of others.
ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder)
A neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that interfere with functioning.
Inattention
A core symptom of ADHD marked by an ongoing pattern of failing to focus on tasks, wandering off task, and general disorganization.
Hyperactivity
A symptom of ADHD characterized by excessive movement that is inappropriate for the setting.
Impulsivity
A core symptom of ADHD characterized by hasty actions without consideration for the consequences.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
A range of neurodevelopmental disorders characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, and communication challenges.
Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)
A condition where children have difficulties with acquiring and using language, also known as Specific Language Impairment (SLI).
Developmental Dyslexia
A learning disorder that involves difficulty in accurate or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding abilities.
Down Syndrome (trisomy 21)
A genetic disorder caused by the presence of all or part of a third copy of chromosome 21, often associated with intellectual disability and distinct facial features.
Brain Plasticity
The ability of the brain to change and adapt in response to experience, including learning and injury.
Synaptic Vulnerability
The susceptibility of the brain to experience negative outcomes due to injuries or adverse environments during critical developmental periods.
