exothermic
transfer of energy to the surroundings so that temperature rises e.g. combostions or self-heating cans
endothermic
reaction that takes in energy from the surrounding so temperature drops e.g. thermal decomposition and some sports injury packs
reaction profiles
chemical reactions refers to the energy and how many times molecule collide.
reaction profiles are graphs that show the activation energy and the energy change between the reation of a reactant to a product
endothermic = increase to decrease and exothermic = decrease to increase.
activation energy
activation energy = min energy required for molecules to react
energy change of reations
energy must be supplied to break bonds and released to form bonds
Sum of energy taken in to break bonds – sum of energy released to form bonds = overall energy change
the breakage of bonds = endothermic and the formage of bonds = exothermic
