Grand jury: In a capital crime, a person does not have to answer unless formally accused by a grand jury

Double jeopardy: A person can’t be charged for the same crime twice.

Self incrimination: You can’t be a witness against yourself.

Due process: Every person has a right to know charges against them and participate in trial.

A person accused of crime has a right to a defense lawyer, to a speedy and public trial, to hear charges, to call witnesses and to be present when witnesses speak in court

The legal system can’t keep someone in jail for years waiting for a trial date

The punishment must be reasonable, no excessive fine in a criminal trial and the punishment must fit the crime.
