Homoscedasticity
Assumption in regression models that the errors have the same variance across all levels of the independent variables.
Multicollinearity
A condition in regression analysis when independent variables are highly correlated, leading to unreliable coefficient estimates.
Heteroscedasticity
Violation of the homoscedasticity assumption, where the variance of errors is not constant.
Standardized Residuals
Residuals that have been scaled to have a mean of zero and a standard deviation of one, useful for detecting heteroscedasticity.
Variance Inflation Factor (VIF)
A measure of multicollinearity; VIF > 10 indicates severe multicollinearity.
Tolerance
In the context of multicollinearity, the proportion of a variable's variance not explained by other independent variables. Low tolerance indicates high multicollinearity.
Partial Correlation
The correlation between two variables after controlling for the effects of other variables.
Log Transformation
A mathematical transformation applied to variables to reduce skewness and stabilize variance, often used to address heteroscedasticity.
Linearity Assumption
Assumption that there is a linear relationship between independent variables and the dependent variable.
Quadratic Effect
The non-linear effect of a variable, modeled by including a squared term in the regression equation.
Moderation Effect
Occurs when the relationship between two variables depends on the value of a third variable (moderator).
Interaction Term
A variable in a regression model that represents the product of two independent variables, used to model moderation effects.
Direct Effect
The immediate impact of an independent variable on a dependent variable.
Mediation Effect
Occurs when the effect of one independent variable on a dependent variable is transmitted through another variable (mediator).
Path Analysis
A statistical technique used to examine direct and indirect relationships among multiple variables, often visualized with a path diagram.
