Reproductive

Amenorrhea

Abnormal absence of menstrual periods for 90 days or more.

Amniocentesis

Surgical Puncture w/needle to obtain a specimen of amniotic fluid to evaluate fetal health & diagnose congenital disorders.

Andropause

Marked by decrease of male hormone testosterone.

Anovulation

Absence of ovulation when normally expected.

Apgar score

Evaluation of newborn's health.

Azoospermia

Absence of sperm in semen.

Cervical dysplasia

Presence of precancerous changes in cells that make up the cervix.

Cervicitis

Inflammation of the cervix.

Chlamydia

STD caused by bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis.

Chorionic villus sampling

Examination of cells retrieved from the chorionic villi between the 8th & 10th week of pregnancy.

Colostrum

Specialized form of milk that delivers essential nutrients and antibodies, in a form new.

Colpopexy

Surgical fixation of the vagina to the surrounding structure.

Dysmenorrhea

Pain caused by uterine cramps during a menstrual period.

Ectopic pregnancy

Condition in which a fertilized egg is implanted outside the uterus.

Endocervicitis

Inflammation of the mucous membrane lining of the cervix.

Endometriosis

Condition in which patches of endometrial tissue escape the uterus and become attached to other structures in the pelvic cavity.

Epididymitis

Inflammation of the epididymis.

Round rubbery firm mass that arises from excess growth of glandular & connective tissue in breast.

Fibrocystic breast disease

Presence of single or multiple benign cysts in breast.

Galactorrhea

Production of breastmilk in women who aren't breastfeeding.

Gonorrhea

Highly contagious STD caused by bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

Hydrocele

Fluid filled sac in scrotum along spermatic cord leading from testicles.

Hypomenorrhea

Unusually small amount of menstrual flow during shortened regular menstrual period.

Hysterosalpingography

Radiographic examination of the uterus & fallopian tubes.

Hysteroscopy

Direct visual examination of the interior of the uterus & fallopian tubes.

Leukorrhea

Profuse whitish mucus discharge from uterus & vagina.

Lochia

Postpartum vaginal discharge that typically lasts 4 weeks after birth.

Mastalgia

Pain in breast.

Mastitis

Breast infection caused by bacteria that enter the breast tissue, most frequently during breastfeeding.

Menarche

Beginning of the menstrual function/cycle.

Menometrorrhagia

Excessive uterine bleeding occurring both during the menses and at other intervals.

Metrorrhea

Abnormal discharge such as mucus or pus from uterus.

Neonate

Newborn baby during first 4 weeks after birth.

Nulligravida

A woman who has never been pregnant.

Nullipara

A woman who has never borne a viable child.

Oligomenorrhea

Abnormal implantation of the placenta in the lower portion of the uterus.

Conditions related to pregnancy characterized by high blood pressure and potential seizures.

Priapism

Painful erection that lasts 4 or more hours that isn't accompanied by sexual excitement.

Primigravida

Woman during her first pregnancy.

Primipara

Woman who has borne one viable child.

Syphilis

STD caused by bacterium Treponema pallidum.

Tubal ligation

Surgical procedure performed for the purpose of female sterilization.

Vaginal candidiasis

Vaginal infection caused by Candida albicans.

Varicocele

A knot of varicose veins in one side of the scrotum.

Vasovasostomy

Procedure to restore fertility in a vasectomized male.

Greasy substance on body after birth.
