What does Statistics allow us to do?

understand (analyze) basic patterns in data

• allows us to draw deeper conclusions about the populations our samples are drawn from

Descriptive Statistics

describe data by simplifying it so it can be more easily understood or interpreted

Inferential Statistics

allows us to make inferences about a larger group based on data from a small subset (sample)

Raw Data

data in the form it’s obtained

Transforming

taking data and putting it in a simpler/ more consistent form

Frequency Distribution

the number of times a singular response shows up in a data set
