Lone parent families are a family type where one parents only takes responsibility for raising children, in 2014 there were 2 million lone parents with dependent children in the uk- a figure that has grown steadily. Lone parents make up a quarter of all familly types in the UK

notes that has been government and EU policy encouraging women back into work, especially with those with children. This has changed family life as women can financially support themselves and their children so don't have to stay in unhappy mamages.
