The Berlin blockade and airlift 1948-49

1-USA, Britain and France decide to join there zone together to create Trizonia

2-June 1948 created the Deutschmark

3-the Soviet Union became fruious that now Germany was economically divided

Middle

4-Stalin decided to shut all land route entrances from east Germany into Berlin

5- Stalin wanted to prove that the germanys being divided would not work as easy Berlin would soon run out of supplies

6-western powers did not want to risk nuclear war and wanted to avoid M.A.D so decided to fly supplies in

7-Operation bottles were western powers glued supplies in( operation little bottles was sweets to children that were flown in)

8-blockade was lifted in may 1949

Consequences for USA

-they appeared peaceful and generous

-September 1949 west Germany was officially formed

-April 1949 NATO was formed

Consequences for Soviet Union

-appeared aggressive and threatening

-October 1949 east Germany was officially formed

-may 1955 Warsaw Pact
