Digestive System
Digests food, absorbs nutrients, and helps with the removal of waste from the body. It is composed of the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, liver, pancreas, and gallbladder
Mouth
The teeth break down food, while the saliva digests the starches in the food
Esophagus
Tract where the food is pushed down the stomach through a series of wave like muscle contractions
Stomach
Food is broken down by the hydrochloric acid (pH 1.5-3.4)
Small Intestine
Absorbs nutrients into the body
Large Intestine
Absorbs water
Liver
Secretes bile to digest fat in the small intestine (bile created by the liver is stored in the gallbladder)
Gallbladder
Stores then releases the bile from the liver
Pancreas
Secretes digestive enzymes into the small intestine to aid digestion
Kidney
Filters the blood, and controls level of substances in the body
Ureter
Connects the kidney to the bladder
Bladder
Stores liquid waste until urinated
Urethra
Transports urine from the bladder to outside of the body
