Summary of the Calvin cycle
ATP and NADPH from light dependent stage is used to turn CO2 from the atmosphere into carbohydrates (GALP)
Where does the Calvin cycle occur
Stroma
1st step
A molecule of CO2 is combined with RuBP via RUBISCO to make an unstable 6 carbon molecule
2nd
The unstable 6 carbon molecule breaks down into two, 3 carbon molecules called GP
3rd
GP is then converted to GALP by adding an electron from NADPH (redox reaction) and energy from ATP
4th
10 of 12 GALP is converted back to RuBP via ATP. The other 2 GALP are used to make glucose.
