define linear motion
movement of a body in a straight or curved line where all parts move the same distance in same direction over same time
how is linear motion produced + 3 examples
direct force being applied to COM
e.g. shotputter puts force into COM of shot as they throw it + it will travel in a curved path when released
e.g. in bobsleight from top-down view force is put through COM + it moves in staright/curved lin
e.g. during 100m torso remains in linear motion
define + give units of measurement for distance
total length of path covered from start to finish
metres
define + give units of measurement for displacement
shortest straight-line route from start to finish
metres
define + give the calculation + units of measure for speed
rate of change in distance
speed (m/s) = distance (m) / time taken (s)
define + give calculation + units of measurement for velocity
rate of change of displacement
velocity (m/s) = displacement (m) / time taken (s)
define + give calculation + units of measurement for acceleration/deceleration
rate of change in velocity
acceleration (m/s/s) = (final velocity (m/s) - initial velocity (m/s) ) / time taken (s)
