Lung Lobes
Right lung larger than left and has 2 fissures.

Pathway of Air
Upper Respiratory System: nose, mouth, pharynx.
Lower Respiratory System: trachea, left and right bronchi and lungs.
Functions of Respiratory System
Supplying O2 for energy production.
Removing CO2 waste.
Maintaining homeostasis.
Maintaining heat exchange.
Respiration
Ventilation = breathing
External Respiration = pulmonary gas exchange
Internal Respiration = tissue gas exchange
Breath Sounds
Bronchial (Tracheal): longer expiration; loud high-pitched.
Bronchovesicular: medium pitched.
Vesicular: longer inspiration; low-pitched.
Medical Terms
Pneumothorax: hole in the pleural membrane and air enters thoracic cavity; can cause lung to collapse.
Hemothorax: blood enters thoracic cavity; lungs cannot inflate.
Kyphosis: thoracic vertebrae curved more than normal.
Scoliosis: curvature of spine, more common in adolescent girls.
