Why is brain split in 2 Hemispheres?
Each side has distinct functions they specialize in(divided again into lobes and areas.) ALSO bc of contralateral organization.
Contralateral organization
Each side of brain controls bodily functions for other side of body. See something with right eye but processed in left brain, etc.
Right Hemisphere
Spatial abilities/awareness, visualizing objects, navigating, facial recognition, facial expressions(and recognizing them), process music and other creative expression
Left Hemisphere
Language and communication, speech and writing, comprehension, analytical thinking, precise and linear thought processes
4 lobes
Frontal, temporal, parietal, occipital
2 areas you NEED to know(and where)
Broca's Area(part of frontal lobe) Wernicke's Area(part of temporal lobe)
3 parts of frontal lobe
Prefrontal cortex, motor cortex, broca's area
Frontal lobe general functions
Higher order thinking, high cognitive/executive functions, movement, personality, emotions
Prefrontal cortex
Deals with the smarty pants stuff of frontal lobe: higher thinking, executive functioning, judgements, desicions, and regulating emotions/impulses
Motor cortex
Organized somatically, controls types of skeletal/muscle movement, while cerebellum also does that, this part focuses more on the planning, commanding, and initiating of movements rather than precise movements.
Broca's area
ONLY IN LEFT PART of frontal lobe, small, deals with the motor part of speaking, generaly the ability to speak.
Somatically
In relation to body, like in motor cortex, each part of it related to a specific body part
Parietal Lobe
Processes sensory info(pain, touch, pressure, etc.), spatial awareness
The 1 part of parietal lobe you NEED to know
Somatosensory cortex
Somatosensory cortex
Relieve and interpret sensations from diff body parts, like heat and pressure, organized somatically
Occipital lobe
Mainly processes visual info = sight
(No sub-part u NEED to know)
Temporal lobe
Mainly processes auditory info, but also memory, facial recognition, and speech (BECUASE IT HOUSES HIPPOCAMPUS)
The 1 part of temporal lobe you NEED to know
Wernicke's area
Wernicke's area
ONLY IN LEFT PART OF temporal lobe, language comprehension. Not about ability to speak but ability to understand one’s own speech and other’s speech.
I just want it to be perfectly 20 cards
Good luck!
