Eukaryotic cells
Cells that contain a nucleus and organelles, enclosed within membranes.
Prokaryotic cells
Simpler cells without a nucleus; DNA is found in a circular loop.
Cell membrane
A lipid bilayer that separates the cell's interior from its external environment.
Cell wall
A rigid layer found in plants and bacteria that provides structural support.
Chloroplasts
Organelles found in plant cells where photosynthesis occurs.
Mitochondria
The powerhouse of the cell, where cellular respiration and energy production take place.
Nucleus
The cell organelle that houses DNA and controls cell activities.
Cytoplasm
The gel-like substance within the cell, where chemical reactions occur.
Ribosomes
The cellular structures where protein synthesis takes place.
Vacuoles
Storage structures in a cell; larger in plant cells and used for storage.
Plasmids
Small, circular DNA molecules found in bacteria that carry genes.
Cellulose
A carbohydrate that makes up the cell wall of plant cells.
