What are the characterstics of an organism?
Movement
Respiration
Sensitivity
Growth
Reproduction
Excretion
Nuitrition
Explain movement
The ability of an organism to change position or place
What is respiration
The breakdown of glucose in the body in order to release energy for cells to use.
What is sensitivity
The ability of an organism to detect stimuli in its internal and external enviroments, and being able to respond to it.
What is growth
The increase in an organism’s dry mass due to the growth of cells or adding new cells into their body.
What is reproduction?
The ability of organisms to reproduce other organisms of the same species as themselves.
What is excretion?
When an organism’s body removes toxic waste products that are a result of metabolic processes.
What is nuitrition?
When organisms take in and absorb materials from their enviroment or food to use for growth and energy.
What is the order of classification?
Kindgdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species
Characteristics of the fungi kingdom
Usually multicellular (some like yeast can be unicellular)
Have nuclei and cell walls made from chitin.
Do not contain chloroplasts
Feed sacrophytically (off waste organic matter or dead organisms)
Characteristics of animal kingdom:
1. Cells do not contail cell walls nor chloroplasts (can’t photosynthesise)
Cells contain nucleus and mitochrondia
Usually multicellular
Organisms feed on organic substances made by other organisms
Characteristics of plant kingdom:
Cells contain nucleus and mitochrondria
Cells contain cellulose cell walls and chloroplasts
Usually multicellular
Produce their own food through the process of photosynthesis.
Characteristics of prokaryote kingdom:
Usually unicellular
Their cells do NOT contain a nucleus or mitochrondrion
Their cells contain a floating ring of DNA
They also contain plasmids (smaller floating rings of DNA)
What are the characteristics of the protoctist kingdom?
Can be multicellular or unicellular
All contain a nucleus but some may or may not have a cell wall and chloroplasts
Some feed through photosynthesis and others from organic substances made by other organisms
