What is sensation?
Sensation is when your sense organs detect something from the environment.
Example: Smelling a flower or feeling something hot.
What are sense receptors?
Sense receptors are special cells that pick up external stimuli for each sense.
Eyes → light, ears → sound, nose → smell, tongue → taste, skin → touch.
What is perception?
Perception is when the brain gives meaning to the sensations we receive.
How does perception work?
The brain processes the sensory information and uses past experience to interpret it.
Example: Seeing a burger and recognising it as food.
Difference between sensation and perception?
Sensation = detecting stimuli
Example: smelling food, feeling pain.
Perception = interpreting what it means
Example: seeing blood and knowing someone is hurt.
Example of perception in everyday life?
Hearing the school bell and understanding it means it’s time to change lessons.
Example of sensation in everyday life?
Feeling pain when you cut your finger.
