What is sensation?
activation of any of the five senses: sight, sound, smell, touch, taste.E.g Smelling a flower is an example of sensation’
What are sense receptors?
Special cells that process external stimuli for each sense (eyes for sight, ears for sound, nose for smell, tongue for taste, skin for touch).
What is perception?
Perception is the meaning humans give to the sensations they experience.
How does perception work?
The brain processes sensory information and interprets it using past experience. For example, seeing a burger and recognising it as food.
Difference between sensation and perception?
Sensation = detecting stimuli (e.g., feeling pain, smelling food)
Perception = interpreting stimuli (e.g., seeing blood and knowing someone is hurt).
Example of perception in everyday life?
Hearing a school bell and understanding it means it’s time to change lessons.
Example of sensation in everyday life?
Feeling pain when you cut your finger.
