Alcoholysis
a reaction in which an alcohol reactant is responsible for breaking bonds, used to convert a carboxylic acid derative into an ester
Hydrolysis
Type of reaction in which water is a reactant that facillitates the breaking of bonds, water is generally a nucleophile in these reactions
Aminolysis
A reaction in which an amine reactant is responsible for breaking bonds, used to convert carboxylic acid derative into an amide
Thinoyl chloride
compound SOCl2, used as a reagent to convert alcohols to alkyl chlorides and carboxylic acids to carboxylic acid chlorides
Hell-volhard-Zelinsky (HVZ) reaction:
A reaction in which the alpha carbon of carboxylic acid is brominated to produce an alpha bromic acid
Sulfonyl chloride
one of a class of compounds with general formula R-SO2Cl
Sulfonate Ester
A functional group with bonding arrangement R’O-SO2R. Sulfonate esters, typically possess very good leaving groups for nucleophilic substitution and elimination reactants
Fischer Esterification Reaction
An acid catalyzed reaction between an alcohol and carboxylic acid produces an ester
Bayer Villiger Oxidation
A reaction in which a peroxy acid converts a ketone or an aldehyde into an ester or a carboxylic acid.
Migratory Aptitude
tendency of a bond between a H or alkyl group and a carbonyl.
B Keto Ester
A species in which the B carbon of an ester is part of a carbonyl group that is characteristic of a ketone
Claisen Condensation Reaction
A reaction in which an enolate anion undergoes nucleophilic addition elimination with an ester, producing a B Keto ester
Crossed Claisen Condensation Reaction
A specific type of Claisen condensation reaction in which carbonyl containing reactants that join together are different
Active methylene compound
CH2 group with two adjacent C=O groups can be converted into a highly nucleophilic enolate anion relatively easily
B Keto Acid
a species in which the B carbon of a carboxylic acid is part of a carbonyl group that is characteristic of a ketone or aldehyde
Decarboxylation
A reaction that removes a carboxyl group from a molecule
Acetoacetic ester synthesis
A synthesis scheme that converts acetoacetic ester into an alkyl or dialkyl substituted acetone
Malonic ester synthesis
A synthesis scheme converts malonic ester into an alkyl or dialkyl substituted aceitc acid
