1
New cards

Learning

is a relatively permanent change in behaviour that occurs as a result of experience.

2
New cards

Conditioning

is the process of learning association between a stimulus in the environment and behavioural response

3
New cards

Stimulus

any object or event that elicits a response from an organism

4
New cards

Response

a reaction by an organism to a stimulus

5
New cards

Classical conditioning

refers to a type of learning that occurs through the repeated association of two or more different stimuli

6
New cards

Pavlov

Dog salivated at the sight/sound of the bell (as well as food) after the experiment

7
New cards

3 phases of Classical conditioning

Before conditioning
During conditioning
After conditioning

8
New cards

Unconditioned stimulus

The UCS is any stimulus that consistently produces a particular naturally occurring, automatic response

9
New cards

Unconditioned response

The UCR is the response that occurs automatically when the UCS is presented

10
New cards

Neutral stimulus

The NS is any stimulus that does not normally produce a predictable response

11
New cards

Conditioned stimulus

The CS is the stimulus that is neutral at the start and eventually has a similar response to the UCS

12
New cards

Conditioned response

The CR is the learned response that is produced by the CS.

13
New cards

What 2 pairs of terms are similar

The UCR and CR together and the NS and CS together

14
New cards

Trial

each paired presentation of the NS with the UCS

15
New cards

Acquisition

is used to describe the overall process during which an organism learns to associate the NS and UCS until the NS alone has becomes a CS that

16
New cards

Writing a classical conditioning response

A UCS produces UCR. A NS produces no response. The NS is presented immediately before the UCS multiple times, and the UCS produces the UCR. The NS is now the CS since on it’s own it produces the UCR which is therefore now the CR
