Amalgam procedure steps

Seat pateint, review health history, confirm treatment, place patoent napkin.

Assembles and identifies all armamentarium, supplies, and equipment

Place topical anesthetic, prepare syringe for dentist.

Transfer syringe, after injection rinse patients mouth.

Place/pick out dental dam clamp and thread floss

6

Transfers the mouth mirror and the high-speed handpiece

7

Demonstrates evacuation/retraction techniques during preparation

Rinses and dries prep and assists during placement of liner/base/copal varnish 

9

Assists during the placement of the tofflemire retainer and matrix band/automatrix band and wooden wedge(s)

Triturates the amalgam and places into the amalgam well

Immediately recaps the amalgam capsule and through away in right waste pin

Fills the amalgam carrier and transfers to the operator until the cavity preparation is overfilled

Retrieves the amalgam carrier and transfers various condensers to the operator

14

Retrieves various condensers and transfers various burnishers to the operator

15

Retrieves various burnishers and transfers various carvers to the operator

16

Assists during the removal of the wooden wedge(s), tofflemire retainer and matrix band/automatrix band

17

Assists during the removal of the rubber dam/dental dam

18

Assembles articulating paper forceps and transfers to the operator

19

Receives articulating paper forceps and assists during occlusal adjustments

20

Transfers a moist cotton pellet in the cotton forceps to the operator 2 times different cotton pellets

21

Uses waste receptacle and "sharps" container(needle, Anesthetic Carter, matrix band)

22

Discusses post-operative instructions with patient

Chew on the opposite side for 24 hours

Be cautious with temperature tooth will be sensitive

If bite fells off call the office
