Authoritarian Parenting

• Restrictive parenting style that emphasizes respect for work

• Parents frequently degrades the child and is highly demanding

• Parents make most decisions for child and rarely listens to their POV

• Parents favor strict rules

• Think “TOTALITARIAN”

Authoritative Parenting

• Child-centered: Parents are attentive to child’s needs and interests while maintaining high expectations for behavior and performance

• Parents permit child to make decisions in accord with their developmental readiness

Permissive Parenting

• Parent is warm, but may spoil the child

• Parent has no firm rules or guidelines

• Parent permits child to make decisions before they are ready to do so

• Allows child to do what he/she wants

• No clear boundaries

Uninvolved/Neglectful Parenting

• Parent is emotionally detached, withdrawn, and inattentive

• Makes few or no demands; Uninterested

• Parent is indifferent to child’s decisions and point of view
