Oestrogen causes the endometrium to be repaired so that it will be ready to receive an embryo if fertilisation occurs.

Progesterone causes the further repair of the endometrium.

Luteinising hormone causes ovulation to occur on day 14.
LH causes the empty Graafian follicle to seal up and become the corpus luteum.
Follicle stimulating hormone
Causes a number of Graafian follicles in the ovary to develop
Stimulates cells in the follicles to secrete oestrogen
Ovulation
The release of an egg from an ovary once a month

Is the time during a menstrual cycle when an egg may be fertilised

Endometriosis - causes
This is where endometrial cells/tissue grow outside the uterus into the fallopian tube and ovaries causing scar tissue to form and cysts
Endometriosis - symptoms
Lower back pain, pain during menstruation and during sex, blood in the urine, infertility
Endometriosis - treatment
No cure
1. Birth control pills can shrink the growths
2. Hormone Replacement Therapy
3. Surgery to remove the scar tissue
4. Hysterectomy- (last resort) removes the uterus
