Checks and balances
Checks and balances is a system where different branches of government have the power to limit each other, preventing any one branch from becoming too powerful. This principle is designed to ensure a balance of power and prevent tyranny or corruption by requiring cooperation and oversight among the branches. In the US government, this is implemented through the separation of powers among the legislative, executive, and judicial branches.
Legislative- can impeach, can override a presidential veto, approve presidential appointments
Executive branch- can veto legislation by congress, can appoint judges subject to congressional approval
Judicial- can review laws by congress and actions of the president and deem unconstitutional, judged are appointed for life ensuring independence from other branches.

It was designed to safeguard against undue influence by small groups and to ensure that states with larger populations did not overpower or overshadow states with smaller populations. What is the makeup of the Electoral College? The total number of electors is 538.
Judicial power
Judicial power refers to the authority and responsibility given to courts to interpret and apply the law, resolve disputes, and enforce legal decisions. This power, established by the U.S. Constitution, includes the ability to hear cases, adjudicate disputes, and ensure that laws are upheld and that legal rights are protected. Judges are appointed for life (in the case of federal judges), and their salaries cannot be reduced, which is designed to protect them from political influence and ensure that they can make impartial decisions.
