Possession type of DID
The identities are present as if the body
was taken over by a spirit or outside being.
Non-Possession DID
The identity switch is unknown to others and is like an out of body experience.
Symptoms of DID
Having at least two identities (personality
states), gaps in memory or amnesia that are
inconsistent with ordinary forgetfulness and the symptoms cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.
Treatment of DID
• Talk therapy: main treatment option for DID which involves talking about the disorder and other related mental health issues
• Medications: there are no specific medications for DID or other dissociative disorders
• Seeking early treatment will result in the best outcome for patients who have DID
