What is the legal process where parental rights are transferred from birth parents to adoptive parents?
Adoption
Define open adoption.
All parties agree to contact and exchange information; the child knows and meets biological parents.

What is a legal requirement for adoption in regards to a child who is more than 12 years old?
If a child is more than 12 years, they must give consent

Improvements in reproductive tech have impacted the number of children available for adoption .
What is a primary carer?
A person who provides the most informal assistance to a person with one or more disabilities, ongoing for at least 6 months and be provided for one or more core activities (communication, mobility, self care)
According to the notes, what are parents responsible for?
Satisfying specific needs for their children, including safety+security, ASoL, health, education and sense of identity
Define Informal carers.
Any person who is giving regular ongoing assistance to another person without payment
What does ASoL stand for and why is it relevant to parenting?
Adequate Standard of Living, parents must provide nutritious food, clean water, appropriate clothing and safe housing.
Name two ways that parents can help children feel valued and affirmed
Modelling appropriate behaviour with others, allowing children to take on age-appropriate responsibilities.
Name two positive lifestyle choices that parents need to make before they get pregnant
Maintain a balanced diet, drink plenty of water, don't drink or smoke, take folic acid.
