Stimulus Generalization
The tendency for changes in behavior in one situation to spread to another situation.
Generalization Gradient
A graphic representation of generalization data.
Fear Conditioning
A type of learning in which a fear response is conditioned to a neutral stimulus.
Stimulus Discrimination
The tendency for behavior to occur in certain situations but not in others.
Generalization Following Reinforcement
When learned behavior is applied to new, similar stimuli after reinforcement.
Generalization Following Extinction
Behavior diminishes in new situations after the original reinforcement has stopped.
Inverse Relationship of Discrimination and Generalization
The more a subject can discriminate between stimuli, the less generalization occurs, and vice versa.
Generalized Behavior
Behaviors that expand beyond original learning contexts, potentially causing problems.
Consequences of Generalization
Potential problems include giving up, inflating problem behaviors, and inappropriate reactions to stimuli.
