Holy Spirit

the third person of the Blessed Trinity, equal in dignity and majesty with the Father and the Son

Gifts of the Holy Spirit

• perfections of the human soul which make us perceptive and docil to the Holy Spirit

• given with grace + activated directly by the HS

• there are 7

Theological Virtues

Faith, hope, and charity

Charisms

• special graces given to someone the good of others

• for the Holiness of others

• ex: holy orders/ordained, speaking in tongues, teaching, music, art

Fruits of the Holy Spirit

• signs that we are living in grace and are filled with the HS

• fruits are a sign that our spiritual life is healthy

• the cannot be earned

Virtue

a habitual and firm disposition to do good

Sacraments

an efficacious sign of God’s grace, given to us by Jesus, and entrusted to the Church by which grace is given through the Holy Spirit

Sacramentals

a sign of devotion that prepares our hearts for grace, ex: miraculous medal, rosary, a blessing in general is a sacramental

• indwelling of the Holy Spirit, given at Baptism

• habitual disposition to live and act according to God’s call

• allows me to act on a supernatural level

• for MY holiness

We receive the virtues in Baptism and they direct us to do good for God, ourselves, and others.

The gifts of the Holy Spirit assist us in learning and growing throughout our lives in faith. They are the sails of a boat, moved by wind of the Holy Spirit.
