Stimulus
A change in the environment that elicits a response from the body.
External Stimulus
A stimulus originating from outside the body, such as light or temperature.
Internal Stimulus
A stimulus originating from within the body, such as hunger or thirst.
Response
The action or change in behavior that occurs as a result of a stimulus.
Receptor
A structure that detects stimuli and sends signals to the nervous system.
Effector
A part of the body that carries out a response to a stimulus, such as muscles or glands.
Nervous System
The body system that uses electrical signaling to transmit information rapidly.
Endocrine System
The body system that uses hormonal signaling to regulate various functions over a longer period.
Hormone
A chemical messenger produced by glands that regulate physiological processes.
Electrical Impulse
A rapid signal transmitted along nerve fibers, allowing for quick responses.
Homeostasis
The maintenance of a stable internal environment in the body.
Negative Feedback
A mechanism that counteracts changes in the body to maintain homeostasis.
Internal Environment
The conditions and factors within the body that must be regulated to maintain homeostasis.
