The only standing Roman ruin in Alexandria.

A pleasure garden. It was used for musical performances, and sometimes also for wrestling contests. Materials for its constructions were brought from all over the world: marble from Asia Minor, red granite from Aswan and white marble from Europe.

A commemoration of the Library of Alexandria that was lost in antiquity, and an attempt to rekindle something of the brilliance that this earlier center of study and erudition represented.
