  • Define key terms in question​

  • Introduce thesis statement/argument linking the AOIand concepts together​

  • Introduce your real-world example (4 elements)​

  • Introduce your ethnography (4 elements)​

  • Briefly outline similarities and differences between different societies in your real-world example and your ethnography in your argument.​

  • Grade 6 Challenge: Use theory/a big idea/inquiry-specific concept in your argument.​

  • Grade 7 Challenge: Add critique in your argument by challenging one theory/big idea with another i.e.the limitations of James Scott's theory of everydayforms of resistance or structural functionalism in howsocial order is not always maintained.

How to phrase Paper 2 section A. First paragraph

  • Introduce your paragraph with a one-line overarchinggeneralisation i.e. your argument/thesis statement whichanswers the exam question including the AOI, RWI and KCand either your ethnography the Kayan or your RWE.​

  • When linking to the AOI, mention the type of body: thesymbolised/ritualised/commodified/modified body or expandon your idea of the body.​

  • After stating your generalisation, introduce an ethnographicexample to demonstrate this.​

  • Signpost: 'My argument can be demonstrated by theethnographic example of the protagonist Maja and herrelationship with her neck rings, the village owner and herown daughter.​

Success Criteria: Paper 2, Section A Conclusion

  • Restate your argument 'To conclude, in this essay, Ihave argued that...'​

  • Include the AOI, RWI and KC in your argument(challenge: inquiry-specific concept and/or theory)​

  • Mention the one ethnography and the RWE you havecompared and contrasted (include author and titles).​

  • Mention how these two societies were similar anddifferent across your AOI, RWI and KC.​

  • Mention what type of body you linked to(ritualised/symbolic/modified etc).​

Challenge:

Grade 6: Restate the theory/big idea you used in yourargument and how it helped your analysis. ​

Grade 7: Restate the critique you used i.e. the weaknessof a theory/big idea and how you added a more nuancedinterpretation with another theory/big idea.
