Function of DNA
Stores genetic information used to make proteins.
Genes
Units of information in our cells, made up of DNA strands.
Chromosomes
Thread-like structures in cells, containing genes.
Allele
A different version of the same gene. It decides how a trait will look.
Gametes
Special cells in our bodies that have half the usual number of chromosomes.
Function of Gametes
Carry genetic information from one generation to the next.
What is the role of genes in protein production?
Each set of three bases codes for a specific amino acid, the building blocks of proteins.
What is sex determination in humans?
Males have XY chromosomes, females have XX. The sperm determines the sex of the offspring.
