the study of joints and ligaments
Joint (articulation)
is formed where two or more bones come in contact
Fibrous Joints
Have minimal movement, and their main purpose is to hold bones together
Ex: Can be found along the flat bones of the cranium
Cartilaginous Joint
Permits only limited motion, mainly stretching or compression
Included within this type of joint are the fibrocartilaginous joints found between vertebral bodies and in the pelvic synphysis
