what are the greenhouse gasses and their formula?

carbon dioxide (CO3)

methane (CH4)

Water vapour (H2O)

Nitrous oxide (N2O)

Ozone (O3)

2
New cards

what are human activities that increase greenhouse gasses?

burning fossil fuels

deforestation

farming animals

using fertilizers

waste in landfills

3
New cards

how do greenhouse gasses trap heat?

the suns rays enter the earths atmosphere, when there are more gasses more heat stays in

4
New cards

how does the enhanced greenhouse effect cause climate change?

extra trapped heat makes global temperatures rise which leads to melting ice, rising sea levels, stronger storms and changes in rainfall.

animals lose habitats and weather patterns become unpredictable

5
New cards

what are signs of climate change?

rising sea levels

more extreme weather

rising global temperatures

6
New cards

what is the carbon dioxide cycle?

carbon dioxide from the air is taken in by plants during photosynthesis and turned into food. Animals eat the plants passing the carbon through the glucose chain. When plants and animals breathe, die or decay, carbon is released back into the air or soil.

7
New cards

what is the nitrogen cycle?

nitrogen gas from the atmosphere is changed in to useful forms by bacteria in soil. plants absorb these forms to grow, and animals get nitrogen by eating the plants. When plants and animals die or produce waste, decomposers break them down and return nitrogen to the soil. other bacteria then releases nitrogen gas back into the air.

8
New cards

what is the phosphate cycle?

Phosphorus moves from rocks into living things and back again. Weathering breaks down rocks and releases phosphate into the soil. Plants absorb it, and animals get it by eating the plants. When plants and animals die or make waste, decomposers return the phosphate to the soil, and over time it can go back into rocks.

9
New cards

what is the respiration equation?

Worded: Glucose + Oxygen → Carbon dioxide + Water + Energy

chemical: C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂ → 6CO₂ + 6H₂O + Energy

10
New cards

what is the photosynthesis equation?

worded: Carbon dioxide + Water → Glucose + Oxygen (in sunlight)

chemical: 6CO₂ + 6H₂O → C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂

11
New cards

what is the equation for combustion of methane?

worded: Methane + Oxygen → Carbon dioxide + Water

chemical: CH₄ + 2O₂ → CO₂ + 2H₂O

12
New cards

what is the equation for formation of acid rain?

worded: Sulfur dioxide + Water → Sulfurous acid (can turn into sulfuric acid)

chemical: SO₂ + H₂O → H₂SO₃
(or) SO₃ + H₂O → H₂SO₄

13
New cards

what’s the difference between climate change and global warming?

climate change is a result of global warming, global warming is a rise in the global temperature due to climate change.

14
New cards

what is eutrophication?

the excess nutrients in the water that runoff into soil

15
New cards

what’s the difference between the greenhouse effect and the enhanced greenhouse effect?

greenhouse effect is a natural process that keeps the earth warm and the enhanced greenhouse effect is from non natural processes caused by human activities
