What is the structure of the heart?
The Heart contains four chambers: two of which are atria and two ventricles

How does the flow of blood progress?
It starts in the right atrium moving into the right ventricle then to the lungs then back to the left atrium then left ventricle before finally moving to the rest of the body and this cycles back
What are the cardiac cycle phases?
Atrial systole → ventricular systole → diastole
What does the Sinoatrial (SA) node do?
It is the pacemaker of the heart
What is an artery?
A vessel made up of thick elastic walls which carries blood away from the heart
What is a vein?
A vessel with thin walls and valves which carry blood towards the heart
What are capillaries?
Vessels with very very thin walls which allow for the exchange of gases and nutrients
What are some of the alveoli adaptations?
They have thin walls, a large surface area, a moist surface, and a rich blood supply
How is oxygen transported in blood?
It’s bound to hemoglobin which creates oxyhemoglobin
How is carbon dioxide transported in blood?
It is dissolved, bicarbonate, and then bound to haemoglobin
