Graduate student TAs (sometimes faculty/staff assist).
What must you do before coming to lab?
Complete the pre-lab reading/exercise posted on Canvas, bring lab handout (print/electronic), and come prepared with safety gear
What happens at the start of every lab?
A short quiz based on pre-lab reading.
How are post-lab assignments submitted?
On Canvas before the following lab; must include data analysis/graph and interpretation. No photos allowed
What is the penalty for late post-labs?
-3 points per day late; no assignments accepted more than a week late
What is the lab attendance policy?
More than 30 minutes late = absent (-10 pts).
1st unexcused = -10 pts.
2nd unexcused = -50 pts.
3rd unexcused = fail course
Who do you contact if you miss lab?
Dr. Hooper, ideally within 24 hours, with verifiable documentation
What counts as excused absences?
Medical (with doctor's note) or official university activities
How are missed lab quizzes/reports handled for excused absences?
Points are prorated based on your average scores
What are the lab exam policies?
Lab 0-4 = Exam 1; Lab 5-9 = Exam 2.
Multiple choice/true-false + practical station portion.
Excused absence requires documentation.
Missed unexcused exam = 0.
If both excused, course grade = Incomplete until made up
List basic lab safety rules.
No food, drinks, gum, or cosmetics.
Wear PPE: lab coat, safety glasses, long pants, closed-toe/heel shoes (no Crocs).
Tie back long hair.
Nitrile gloves provided.
Contact lenses discouraged.
Know eyewash, first aid, fire exits, spill kits
What are lab point deductions for?
Lateness, absences, not putting away microscope, unclean station, disrespectful behavior, equipment misuse, electronics use, no PPE, bringing food/drink, unpreparedness
