Schizoprenia
significant breaks from reality, a lack of integration of thoughts and emotions, and serious problems with attention and memory - translates to split mind, cognitive impairments
Hallucinations & Delusions
false perceptions- seeing things that aren’t there or hearing sounds that aren’t real
false beliefs - about reality
delusions of grandeur (belief youre more important than you are, somehow privileged or godlike), persecutory delusions common (somebody is coming to harm you/hurt you/talking behind your back) ex: Vince Li experienced both
confused thoughts and speech - can’t construct meaningful sentences or produce full length
Negative symptoms
involve the absence of adaptive behaviour
flat affect: not expressing expressions as fluidly or normally as healthy individuals, neutral like
poverty of speech: lack of normal speech
lack of motivation: don’t wanna do things + losing interest in activities
Positive Symptoms
behaviours that are present that should not be occurring
hallucinations/delusions
confused thoughts and speech
inappropriate affect: not expressing emotions properly = outbursts/ bad interactions and socialization
Phases of schizoprenia
Prodromal: confusion, loss of interest, social withdrawal
Active: hallucinations, delusions, disorganized thoughts, emotions, behaviours
Residual: period of reduced symptoms; may continue to be withdrawn, have difficulty concentrating and lack motivation
