Boiling Point
The temperature at which a liquid's vapor pressure equals the external pressure, causing it to change to a gas.
Melting Point
The temperature at which a solid becomes a liquid due to the absorption of heat.
Heat of Fusion
The amount of heat required to convert a unit mass of a solid into a liquid at its melting point.
Heat of Vaporization
The amount of heat required to convert a unit mass of a liquid into vapor at its boiling point.
Equilibrium
A state in which the solid and liquid phases of a substance coexist at a certain temperature and pressure.
Sublimation
The process in which a solid changes directly into a gas without passing through the liquid state.
Endothermic Process
A process that absorbs heat from the surroundings.
Exothermic Process
A process that releases heat to the surroundings.
Kinetic Energy
The energy of an object due to its motion, which affects the temperature of a substance.
Potential Energy
The stored energy of an object which can be converted into kinetic energy.
