Describe SkillsUSA and why it is an integral component of a career and technical program.

SkillsUSA is a national organization for students in career and technical education that helps them develop technical skills, leadership, and workplace skills. It is important in a CTE program because it helps students build the necessary skills required for the workforce. 

What is the mission of SkillsUSA, and how have you seen it fulfilled?

SkillsUSA’s mission is to empower students to become skilled professionals, work-ready leaders, and responsible citizens. This mission has been fulfilled through events such as competitions, leadership training, and community service. 

What is the SkillsUSA Framework and how does it actualize the organization’s mission?

The SkillsUSA Framework is a tool that outlines the essential skills students need to be successful in their own careers. It supports SkillsUSA’s mission by helping students develop career ready skills across three main areas: Personal Skills, Workplace Skills, Technical Skills.

How does your CTE training program prepare you for your career, and what role does your instructor play in it?

In my CTE program, we learn through a mix of classroom lessons and hands-on activities in a workshop…..(describe your own experience)

In what way has Perkins funding contributed to the success and development of your CTE program?

Perkins funding has enabled the various CTE programs within our chapter to unlock greater opportunities via access to improved technology, and as a result, has allowed us to undertake highly advanced challenges and better our understanding of our respective programs.

What is your career goal, and how have your work and CTE experiences supported it?

How have your CTE experiences contributed to your progress toward your career goal?

What role do Career and Technical Organizations and SkillsUSA play in preparing you for the workforce?

CTSOs help provide leadership opportunities, teamwork experiences, and career exploration. These organizations also help students develop professional skills in a real-world context.

How has your SkillsUSA chapter contribute to the school and local community?

Our local SkillsUSA chapter has championed community service in the form of events such as Veteran’s Day luncheons, toy drives, and helped in school beautification projects. These efforts have made a positive impact on our school and local community.
