Thin translucent paper with a smooth surface

What are the uses of layout paper?

Sketching and quick ink or marker rendering. Sketchpads

Translucent paper, slightly thicker than layout paper

What are the uses of tracing paper?

For copying images when sketching

What are the properties/performance characteristics of copier paper?

Inexpensive general purpose, white or other colours. Smooth surface, mostly matte or sometimes glossy

What are the uses of copier paper?

Printing photographs and images. General office printing such as documents, emails, assignments, booklets

What are the properties/performance characteristics of cartridge paper?

Off white paper usually with a slightly textured surface

What are the uses of cartridge paper?

Sketching, rendering in pencil, ink and pastel. Can be used for printing

High quality paper, bright colour holding, durable surface

What are the uses of bond paper?

Letterheads, flyers, writing paper, typing paper

What are the properties/performance characteristics of coated paper?

Restricts the amount of ink absorbed into the paper and/or how the ink bleeds into the paper. Good for sharp, complex images.

Duplex card is a coated paper with the exterior made water resistant for a waxy, glossy appearance.

What are the uses of coated paper?

Spirit based marker rendering, photographic printing, high quality, graphics,. Duplex card for juice or milk cartons, disposable cups

Made from compressed fine cotton fibres to produce a rigid board

What are the uses of mounting board?

Presenting artwork, picture mounting, modelling

What are the properties/performance characteristics of corrugated board?

Usually with carton board outer layers and a corrugated middle layer, giving the material the ability to provide protection against impact

What are the uses of corrugated board?

Protective packaging, model making, prototyping ideas, food packaging such as takeaway boxes

What are the properties/performance characteristics of foam board?

Two outer layers of card with a foam middle core, available in a range of thicknesses

What are the uses of foam board?

Mood board backing, presentation boards and modelling

What are the properties/performance characteristics of folding box board?

Multiple layers of pulp with the top layer usually bleached or pigmented. Good thickness for a good printing surface. Can be creased and embossed. Lightweight, high stiffness

What are the uses of folding box board?

Packaging products, supermarket food packaging, pharmaceutical packaging

What are the properties/performance characteristics of foil-lined board?

Board with foil applied to either one side or both sides to provide a water resistant and/or heat insulating layer. The foil can be removed before recycling the paper pulp

What are the uses of foil-lined board?

Drinks packaging, milk cartons, take away box lids
