amplitude (A)
the maximum displacement of the wave from its equilibrium position.
wavelength (λ)
the distance over which a wave’s shape repeats.
frequency (F)
the number of waves that pass a certain point every second, measured in hertz (Hz).
period (T)
the amount of time needed for a wave to pass a certain point, measured in seconds (s).
reflection
the change in the direction of a wave such that it returns to the medium from which it originated.
refraction
the change in direction of wave propagation due to a change in transmission medium.
dispersion
the visible separation of colours.
