Who proposed the theory?
Craick and Lockhart (1972)
What did they believe?
They believed that rehearsal alone was not enough to process information into LTM, and that the type of information you are trying to store, or to the level of processing may affect if that information goes into LTM.
What are the three levels of processing?
Structural, phonological, and semantic
Structural
The most shallow level of processing
Refers to how things look
Phonological
the medium level of processing
Semantic
Deepest level of processing
Refers to making information more meaningful by relating it to previously stored information.
