Conjunctiva
Mucous membrane that cover the inside of the eyelids and loops back to cover the sclera right up to the edge of the cornea. Provides protection an lubrication of the eye by producing mucus and tears which prevents microbial entrance and immune surveillance.

Cornea
Clear transparent dome in the front of the eye made of a connective tissue containing collagen fibrils embedded in proteoglycan rich extra fibrillar matrix (not vascularized). Epithelia cells produce mucin and cells create tight junctions

Lacrimal Apparatus
Contains the tear system: lacrimal gland, puncta, canaliculi, lacrimal sac, nasolacrimal canal.
Lacrimal Glands
Contribute to tears and drain to nasal cavity. Glands of Krause, Grands of Henle, and Meibomian Glands,

Sclera
Dense/opaque connective tissue, make up outer layer. Has four layers

Episclera
Layer of clear, thin tissue thats the outer most layer, with blood vessels, without lymphatic vessels in adult eyes

Stroma
Layer made of fibroblasts (cells that make collagen) with collagen fibers that blends into the episcleral.

Lamino fusca
Abundance of melanocytes, transitioning into endothelium.

Meibomian Glands
Oil secreting glands in the eyelids, secrete meibum into tears with blink action to acidify the tear fil (pH= 5.5-6.5). Holocrine gland

Aqueous Humor
In the anterior chamber that contains amino acids, electrolytes, ascorbic acid, glutathione. and immunoglobulins.
