Ans: Allah Almighty has many beautiful names. These names are expressive of His Sifat, the perfect Attributes. The word 'Allah' stands for his Dhat, or Himself, while other attributive names are emanation from it.

Q2: Why should a Muslim know the attributes of Allah?

Ans: A Muslim must believe that no one shares Allah's names and attributes with Him. He should neither deny them nor compare them to the qualities of any of His creatures, because comparison is not possible. Man cannot comprehend the ultimate essence of Allah can only have some idea about Him through His attributes. Therefore, it is necessary to know these attributes and names and well as their meanings.

Ans: There are but a few of His special names. No one can be named these names except by adding Abd (meaning 'the servant of) before them. For example, 'Abdar-Rehman', Abd-al-Khaliq, Abd-as-Samad, etc. Other attributes such as Rahim Merciful, Karim Generous, etc, are common to Human beings also, but when describing Allah they denote special meanings.
