Multiplies
Is the result of multiplying a number by a whole number Example: Multiplies of 5 are: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25….
Factor
The result of dividing a number evenly by a natural number (a whole number greater than 0). Example: the factors of 18 are 1,2,3,6,9,18
Prime Number
A natural number greater than 1 that has no positive divisors other than 1 and itself. Example: The first few prime numbers are 2, 3, 5, 7, and 11.
Divisibility
The ability of one number to be divided by another without leaving a remainder. For example 18 can be divided by 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, and 18 without having a remainder
Greatest Common Factor (GCF)
The largest positive number that divides two or more numbers without a remainder. For example, the greatest common factor of 12 and 16 is 4.
Least Common Multiple (LCM)
The smallest multiple that two or more numbers have in common. For example, the least common multiple of 4 and 5 is 20.
Exponent
The number of times the base is multiplied by itself. For example, in 5^3, 5 is the base, and 3 indicates it is multiplied three times (5×5×5), resulting in 125.
Squared
A number multiplied by itself. For example, 3 squared (3^2) equals 9.
Cubed
A number multiplied by itself three times. For example, 2 cubed (2^3) equals 8.
Composite Number
A positive number that has at more than 2 factors. For example, 18 is a composite number because it can be divided by 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, and 18.
Sum
The solution to an addition question.
Difference
The solution to a subtract question.
Product
The solution to a multiplication question.
Quoitent
The solution to a division question.
Absolute Value
The distance of a number from zero on the number line (it’s always positive)
Opposite Number
is a number that is the same distance from zero on the number line, but in the opposite direction.
Inequality
A mathematical statement that shows the relationship between two expressions that are not equal, using symbols like <, >, ≤, or ≥.
common denominator
The same denominator
numerator
top of a fraction
denominator
bottom of a fraction
Mixed Number
A number that combines a whole number and a fraction, such as 2 1/2.
Improper Fraction
a fraction where the numerator is greater than the denominator.
quotient
result of division
product
the result of multiplying two or more numbers together.
sum
the result of adding two or more numbers together.
difference
the result of subtracting one number from another.
